As part of a working trip to the Murmansk Region, Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev visited the largest ski resort in Northwestern Russia, Bolshoy Vudyavr. One of the issues that was raised during his visit was the need to increase the length of the trails. This was announced on its website by the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (KRDV).

"Now one of the important tasks is to increase the length of the trails. The management of the resort reported on such plans. For a ski complex with any amount of infrastructure, the most important thing is the length of the trails. If the length of the trails is long, people will come. The more, the greater the coverage area," said Trutnev, whose words are quoted in the message.

The Bolshoy Woodyavr is located in Kirovsk, in the southern part of the Khibiny massif - on the slopes of Mount Aikuaivenchorr. As noted in the KRDV, the skiing season at the resort is the longest in Russia at comparable heights: it begins in early November and ends in June. Additionally, the latest artificial snowmaking system helps to expand the season. The total length of the resort's trails is 30 km, of which more than 18 km have high-intensity artificial lighting, which is important during the polar night in December.

"The resort has slopes for any skier: from beginners to advanced experts. Some of the trails have received a permanent certificate of compliance from the International Ski Federation FIS. Every day before the start of skiing, all the routes of the ski resort are prepared by snow-sealing machines that perfectly align the tracks," KRDV said.

According to the corporation, over the past five years, the tourist flow to Khibiny has increased fourfold - to 335 thousand people. The average attendance of the "Big Wood" is over 1.5 thousand guests per day, and the peak reaches 5.5 thousand people.

"You can go to the resort with the whole family. There is all the infrastructure for a good rest: modern sports equipment, professional instructor service, ski service, equipment storage rooms with heated and ventilated cabinets, large cafes with panoramic verandas and spacious free Parking. There is a children's room with a playground on the Southern slope, where professional educators look after the kids, and there are mother and child rooms for guests with very young children," the message says.

At the end of 2021, the construction of the Plateau complex, including a cafe, bar and restaurant with panoramic views for 300 seats, was completed at the top of the Northern slope of Aikuaivenchorr. According to the KRDV, the building has become the highest panoramic restaurant in the North-West of Russia.

"In addition, the design of the Aurora aquatic complex and its hotel is actively underway in Kirovsk. Both facilities will be built near the northern slope of Mount Aikuaivenchorr. The Aurora complex has received the support of the governor of the Murmansk Region, Andrey Chibis, and will be built by PhosAgro with the financial participation of the regional budget," the corporation said.

The complex will be able to receive up to 780 visitors at a time. As expected, the new hotel with almost 160 rooms will become the first full-fledged SKI-IN/SKI-OUT hotel in Khibiny. This format assumes that a guest can get on the track almost at the entrance to the hotel, and then go down the mountain to its doors. The project is scheduled to be completed next year.
