The press service of Mospriroda reminded that in specially protected natural areas of the capital, feeding of wild animals can only be carried out in winter. Before the onset of low negative temperatures, mammals are able to obtain their own food.

Experts note that feeding animals in the warm season can harm them. Birds and animals may simply forget how to obtain food on their own and become dependent on humans. In winter, when the snow cover becomes very deep, it becomes more difficult to obtain food. Squirrels will especially need help in this situation.

To feed birds and mammals, stationary and temporary feeders, feeding areas and artificial nesting boxes are installed. In the cold season, houses are needed not only by birds, but also by squirrels. In winter, there can be up to six animals in one squirrel nest, although they usually prefer to live alone.

“Specialists of the State Budgetary Institution “Mospriroda” strongly recommend not to interfere with the natural processes of the life of wild nature. In addition, it is worth remembering that it is not recommended to feed animals by hand, because these are wild animals, so they can bite,” the message says.
