The press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation spoke about the results of the Clean Air 2023 project. On average, emissions of pollutants in 12 industrial cities with high and very high levels of air pollution decreased by 12%.

At the first stage, the project included Bratsk, Krasnoyarsk, Lipetsk, Magnitogorsk, Mednogorsk, Nizhny Tagil, Novokuznetsk, Norilsk, Omsk, Chelyabinsk, Cherepovets and Chita. By 2030, it is planned to halve emissions in all these cities relative to 2017.

By the end of 2023, the largest reduction in emissions was recorded in Chelyabinsk – 43%, followed by Mednogorsk – 17%, followed by Cherepovets – 16%.

Each city has its own emission reduction measures. Somewhere public transport is being replaced with eco-friendly, somewhere the private sector is being transferred to gas and central heating, businesses are modernizing their production facilities.
