Energy-efficient technologies are being introduced at the main ski resort in Bulgaria. The Bansko community will direct all the saved funds to the modernization of street lighting in the region.
A year ago, the administration of the ski resort of Bansko installed energy-efficient photovoltaic panels on the roof of the municipal administration building. With their help, it was possible to establish ecological production of electricity with a capacity of up to 35 kW. The financing of the Climate Micro-Projects program was carried out jointly by the resort administration and the National eco-fund of Bulgaria.
As a result of the operation of solar panels, the consumption from the energy networks has almost halved: the electricity generated by the solar station covers 40% of the daily needs of the administrative building. At the end of the half-year, it was possible to save 11,000 Bulgarian lev (11,000 BGN=5614 EUR). This is a considerable sum for a city with a population of 7,000 people.
The Bansko community will direct all the saved funds to the further introduction of green technologies. In the city, 50% of traditional arc lamps have already been replaced with economical LED lights. Work to improve the environmental situation at the ski resort will continue.
