Croatia's Risnjak National Park has made it into the top five best parks in Europe. Nestled amidst picturesque mountains,it spans an area of 63.5 square kilometers (24.5 square miles). "Risnjak" is renowned for its rich biodiversity. Wolves, brown bears, and even lynxes, which gave the park its name, still roam freely within its boundaries.

Hike along one of the five trails to admire wild orchids, observe the diverse butterfly population in the Butterfly Valley, or ascend to one of Croatia's most breathtaking viewpoints near the summit of Snježnik.

Mountain biking enthusiasts can explore routes ranging from 4 to 40 kilometers in length. Additionally, the park's sport fishing season on the Kupa River, which originates within its borders, commenced on May 15th.

The ranking of European parks, compiled by leading travel journalists, takes into account a unique factor: tranquility. In this regard, "Risnjak" stands out as one of the least crowded parks in Europe.

Joining Croatia's National Park on the list of top-rated destinations are:

  • Spain: Agerstortes National Park and Estany de Sant Maurici

  • Germany: Eifel National Park in North Rhine-Westphalia

  • Portugal: Peneda-Gerês National Park, the country's only national park

  • France: Mercantour National Park
