A deadly epidemic of coronavirus infection has struck the cats of the island of Cyprus. According to activists of the Society for the Protection of Animals, the disease has mowed down most of the almost million-strong population of island felines.

According to legend, the first cats were brought to Cyprus almost 1700 years ago by order of the Roman Empress Elena. This was done to combat poisonous snakes. And I must say that the mustachioed predators brilliantly coped with the task. Therefore, cats in Cyprus are loved, groomed and cherished.

Even the Government of the Republic of Cyprus has joined the fight for the life of the feline population. On the recommendation of the Ministry of Agriculture, the veterinary services of the country will be allocated antikovid drugs that remain unclaimed by people after the end of the pandemic.

Despite the similarity of therapy, the feline variant of coronovirus – infectious peritonitis (FIP) – is not transmitted to humans. Veterinarians hope that thanks to the measures taken, the epidemic will be extinguished in the near future.
