Training sessions for the Russian alpine skiing, snowboarding and freestyle skiing teams have started at the Elbrus resort and will last until the end of November. In general, the sports season opened here with more than a thousand athletes from all over the country playing for federal and regional teams. The company “Kavkaz.RF” reported this on its website.
“According to established tradition, our skiers are the first to open the winter season at the Elbrus resort. Our resort is an excellent base for training with the highest ski area in the country. Soon all winter sports lovers will join them. Our legendary resort is actively developing - a new ski area is being built, comfortable accommodations are opening, walking routes are being laid,” Khisa Bekkaev, deputy general director of Kavkaz.RF, is quoted in the message.
He is confident that Elbrus will soon become more popular among summer sports athletes.
As the company noted, for comfortable training before competitions of various levels, the ski slopes were specially prepared on the glacier. With the help of snowcats, specialists from the Kavkaz.RF operation service created natural barriers in the ski areas to retain snow, which so far has fallen less than usual at this time. Thanks to such actions, the snow cover almost doubles for safe sliding.
Elbrus is an all-season resort managed by Kavkaz.RF. There are three lines of gondola cable cars, including the highest in the country - it is located at 3847 meters above sea level. In winter, 17 km of ski slopes are available to guests; in summer, trail running, trekking, horseback riding and jeep tours are popular among tourists. More than a thousand accommodation places have been created for guests, including the LeapRus high-altitude hotel at an altitude of 3,912 meters, the company said.
