In 2024, 18 sunken ships will be disposed of in the Sakhalin Region at the expense of funds from the federal and regional budgets. The water area of the region is being put in order within the framework of the federal project "General Cleaning". This is reported on the website of the governor and the government of the region.
"This year, it is necessary to complete the main amount of work so that Sakhalin residents and Kuril residents do not spoil their impressions of a vacation on the coast. In addition, the "General cleaning" makes it possible to increase the safety of maritime navigation," said Governor Valery Limarenko, whose words are quoted in the message.
Last year, 30 ships were sent for recycling - more than 500 tons of scrap metal.
"The Korsakovsky district has become the leader in the disposal of sunken ships. For the first time, a unique Russian development was used here – a laser installation for cutting metal at a distance," the regional government noted.
Large–scale work has unfolded in the waters of one of the remote and logistically inaccessible places of Sakhalin - on Paramushir Island.
