The press service of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve announced the completion of a new stage of research into marine debris and cleanup of the coast of southern Kamchatka. Using a drone, specialists collected information about the location of waste accumulations in the area near the South Kamchatka Nature Reserve. After that, they carried out manual work to replenish the database and clean up selected areas of the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk. Large fishing gear thrown out by the surf was removed by special equipment.
It is expected that the collected data will make it possible to properly organize volunteer field camps for such events. The reserve's employees intend to share their experience with colleagues from other regions.
Schoolchildren took part in the project and collected about 200 kg of marine debris from a 1.5 km long area. Local activists also brought order to the coast. They cleared the shore from the village of Zaporozhye of 400 kg of garbage.
