The first hybrid solar-diesel power plant in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the most powerful in Russia has been put into operation in the Arctic village of Tura, located in the Evenki district.

The station will provide electricity to a locality where more than five 5,000 people live. During daytime hours, solar panels partially replace the diesel installation, and at night the generator is still running, goarctic.ru reports.

According to calculations, such a scheme will make it possible to save about 12% of fossil fuels per year.

The start of hybrid generation in the Tura is important not only by itself. For the Arctic zone of Russia, this is an experience that will make it possible to assess the prospects for switching from diesel to renewable energy in high latitudes, as well as northern and remote areas of the country. The developments tested in the Tura can be scaled to other territories of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
