Russia and China are working on joint projects that are important for the economy and science of the two countries, the purpose of which is the sustainable development of the Arctic region, said Nikolay Korchunov, Ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, senior Russian official in the Arctic Council.
"Projects primarily aimed at the sustainable development of the Arctic region are being developed, and they are of great importance for the economy and science of the two countries," he said.
The diplomat noted that Moscow and Beijing cooperate in such areas as oceanology and marine research.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a briefing that Beijing is ready to cooperate with Moscow in various areas, including in the Arctic, TASS reports.
