Representatives of the tourism industry were told about support measures in the Arctic during the practical session "How the White Sea competes with the Black Sea: new approaches to the development of Arctic tourism", organized by the Ministry of Regional Development of Russia and the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (KRDV).
"The Arctic is a strategically important region for the country. An important milestone in the development of tourism in the polar territories was the adoption in 2020 of the federal law on state support for entrepreneurial activity. The world's largest free economic zone operates on the territory of the Russian Arctic, providing for a number of business preferences," said Maria Badmatsyrenova, Deputy Director of the KRDV Investment Department.
According to her, thanks to unprecedented support measures, tourists' interest in the Russian Arctic has increased significantly: in 10 years, the tourist flow has increased more than one and a half times to 1.2 million visits per year.
These figures may not be as impressive in comparison with the southern directions of Russia, but do not forget that the population of the Russian Arctic slightly exceeds 2.5 million people, Badmatsyrenova noted.
Within the framework of the preferential regime of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, residents are implementing 20 investment projects in the field of tourism and recreation, involving investments in the amount of 1.2 billion rubles, of which 0.4 billion rubles have already been actually invested in the implementation.
