Owners of small and medium-sized businesses in Belgium are allowed to pay employees a surcharge in the form of so-called eco-checks, which they can use to pay for environmental goods and services.
The only condition is that the amount of eco-checks with a face value of 10 euros each should not exceed 250 euros per year per employee.
For the employer, the advantage is that eco-checks are not taxed in favor of social funds, while using this financial instrument, they can raise wages.
According to the RTBF TV channel, employees of small and medium-sized enterprises, in turn, have the right to pay with eco-checks for organic products, household appliances with high environmental indicators, natural construction and insulation materials, solar panels, trees and plants for the garden, accommodation in tourist eco-settlements and even train tickets.
