The joint exhibition "The Svalbard Archipelago in the 21st Century" of the Barentsburg Museum and the Arktikugol Trust is being held at the Russian State Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic in St. Petersburg.
The exhibition features photographs by documentary filmmaker Stanislav Schubert, telling about the life and everyday life of modern polar explorers in the Russian villages of Barentsburg and Pyramid in the Svalbard archipelago.
"The history of Svalbard is rich and eventful, but it is quite difficult to get to the northernmost point of Europe. The exhibition will tell us about modern life in Barentsburg and thanks to Stanislav Schubert's photographs we can get acquainted with this wonderful archipelago," Natalia Petrova, director of the Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic, said in her welcoming speech to the participants of the exhibition.
The presented photos were taken in the villages of Barentsburg and Pyramid in 2019-2023. The scenes of modern life allow us to form a general idea of life in Svalbard. The Arctic landscapes, impressive in their beauty, complement the exposition.
The exhibition will close on May 27.
