Dmitry Kirillov, head of the Federal Agency for Water Resources of Russia, moderated the plenary session. Using the example of the national project "Ecology," he spoke about how thousands of hectares of water surface were cleaned up in Russia. These include small rivers, lakes, and the largest water bodies. Next year, it is planned to launch a joint water project to improve the health of the country's largest rivers, including transboundary ones. It will affect rivers such as the Amur, Don, Irtysh, Lena, Terek, and Ural.
Many other countries are also following the path of rational water use in a changing climate. For example, this year Azerbaijan signed a new Water Strategy aimed at ensuring the sustainable and rational use of water resources. The document provides for measures to strengthen long-term water security, taking into account climate change, as well as the introduction of modern technologies for monitoring, cleaning, and managing water resources. And in Kazakhstan since 2023, large-scale reforms have been underway aimed at transforming the water management sector of the republic, and a long-term concept for water resource management has been adopted.
In conclusion of the discussion, attention was focused on the importance of a comprehensive, coordinated, and rational approach to the use of water resources by all countries.
