The press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Nature Management of the Moscow Region reported that specialists have discovered a previously unknown location of the spherical sarcosoma in the forests of the Mozhaisk urban district. This rare species is popularly called the "witch's cauldron".

Spherical sarcosoma is listed in the Red Data Books of Russia and the Moscow Region. It belongs to ascomycetous fungi and in appearance resembles a brown pot with black contents.

Previously, this fungus was recorded in the natural monument "Complex spruce forest with a sphagnum bog" in the Volokolamsk urban district. Spherical sarcosoma prefers coniferous forests. Despite the rarity of this species, often when one fungus is found, several more are found next to it.

Collecting spherical sarcosoma is fraught with administrative punishment. Scientists emphasize that the mushroom is inedible. However, there is a popular belief that the "witch's cauldron" has healing properties.
