More than two thousand volunteers from five regions of Russia participated in the "Water of Russia" campaign aimed at cleaning the banks of the Kama River.
In Udmurtia, Perm Krai, Kirov Oblast, Bashkortostan, and Tatarstan, through which this major river flows, volunteers managed to collect 194 bags of trash. This information was reported by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia on its website.
"The cleanup involved volunteers, public figures, ecologists, businesspeople, deputies, students, and simply concerned citizens. By coming together as one large team, they cleaned 10.8 kilometers of coastline and gathered 95 bags of household waste, 68 bags of plastic, 8 bags of metal, and 23 bags of glass," the report stated.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, thanks to the volunteers' efforts, the Kama will be cleaner, and the collected waste will be sent for recycling instead of ending up in the water.
The "Water of Russia" campaign is part of the national project "Ecology." This year alone, over 11,500 cleanup events have taken place across the country. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, since the initiative's inception, more than 9.5 million volunteers have cleaned over ten thousand water bodies and collected approximately 11 million bags of trash.
