Vietnam has been recognized as the leading destination in Asia, as well as the best destination for cultural heritage and the leading nature destination at the 31st annual World Travel Awards (WTA). The awards ceremony took place in Manila,Philippines, in early September.
The capital, Hanoi, has been named the leading tourist center and the best place for city breaks. Ho Chi Minh City has also received awards, becoming the "Asia's Leading Business Travel Destination" and "Asia's Leading Festival and Events Destination."
For the past seven years, Vietnam has been recognized as the leading destination in Asia for the sixth time. To maintain the prestigious title this year, Vietnam managed to surpass many strong competitors, including China, India, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka.
The ancient city of Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has won the award for "Asia's Leading Cultural City" for the fifth time, having won this title in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Vietnam's "Green Pearl of Tourism," Moc Chau, has been named Asia's Leading Regional Nature Destination 2024.
Ha Giang, the northernmost province of the country, made its debut in the category of "Asia's Leading Regional Cultural Destination 2024." Meanwhile, Ha Nam province was recognized for the first time as "Asia's Leading Emerging Destination 2024."
For the sixth consecutive year since 2019, Cuc Phuong National Park in the northern Ninh Binh province has been recognized by WTA as Asia's Leading National Park 2024. This year, the Vietnamese park surpassed not only its closest "colleague" - Cat Tien National Park from Vietnam, but also Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park in Japan, Chitwan National Park in Nepal, Minneriya National Park in Sri Lanka, and Kinabalu and Taman Negara National Parks in Malaysia.
According to Nguyen Van Chinh, director of Cuc Phuong National Park, this award is not only a source of encouragement for the leadership but also reflects the recognition of both the domestic and international community for the tireless efforts of generations of park staff over more than 60 years.
The WTA award, established in 1993 and often referred to as the "Oscars" of the travel industry, is the world's leading travel award. The award is presented annually to the leading companies, groups, and regions in the industry, becoming a prestigious brand that recognizes outstanding achievements in all areas of the travel and tourism industry.
