Up to ten new specially protected natural areas will be created in Sochi in 2022

Three zones will be the first to receive the status of protected areas - the square along Constitution Street along the Sochi River from the market to the pedestrian bridge with an area of ​​2.24 hectares, the square near the Moscow Hotel with an area of ​​0.96 hectares and the square along Oktyabrya Street of the Khostinsky District - 0.9 hectares.

«These are urban green corners, loved by residents and guests of Sochi, which should be documented as PAs already in February. The new status defines permitted and prohibited activities on the territory, protects green spaces, perennial trees and shrubs grow in these areas,» the Sochi administration reported.

One of the main events of the Year of Ecology in Sochi is the preservation and enhancement of the green attire of the resort. Fifty thousand seedlings are to be planted in the city, including at reintroduction sites for the restoration of boxwood Colchian. In 13 district forestries, the implementation of the program for the restoration of chestnut forests approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia will continue.

At the same time, the issue of creating a quarantine site in the city is underway, where it will be possible to keep all the plants imported into the city in order to identify their possible damage by pests, the press service of the Sochi administration noted.
