The press service of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources has announced that two unauthorized dumps have been removed in North Ossetia-Alania as part of the federal project "Clean Country". This year, the dumps, covering a total area of 60.7 hectares, were located near water bodies.

One of the dumps was situated in Beslan, two kilometers from the Terek River, and had been accumulating waste since the mid-20th century. It was formed on the site of a former quarry in a seismically active zone, collecting over 450,000 cubic meters of household and industrial waste.

The second dump was located near water bodies in the city of Digora, where 477,000 cubic meters of waste were disposed of. The clearance of this dump improved the quality and safety of life for over 10,000 residents.

In total, five dumps have been cleared in the region under the "Clean Country" project, including the largest waste landfill in the country, the Vladikavkaz landfill. Additionally, unauthorized dumps have been removed in the cities of Alagir and Ardón.

Work to eliminate dumps and hazardous sites will continue in other regions of the country. By the end of the year, the national project "Ecology" aims to have reclaimed 191 dumps and addressed 88 sites of accumulated environmental harm across Russia.
