The authorities of the Bahamas from Wednesday impose a ban on travelers from the United States and Latin America to enter the territory of this state, located on the Islands of the same name to the North of the Caribbean sea and Cuba.
This decision is caused by an increase in cases of COVID-19 in the tourist archipelago, said Prime Minister Hubert Minnis.
On Bahamas with a population of less than 400,000 people who have not yet recovered from the damage caused by hurricane Dorian in 2019, about 50 new cases of coronavirus infection have been registered since the borders opened on July 1.
According to Minnis, the Bahamas will now only accept flights from the UK, Canada and Europe.
Tourists from these countries must have an electronic medical visa and evidence of a negative coronavirus test passed at least ten days before arrival. In the absence of one, foreign guests will be denied entry to the country.
In the United States today, almost 4 million cases of COVID-19 have been registered and more than 140,000 people have died from coronavirus infection. The new epicenter of the coronavirus is located in the state of Florida, just 80 km from the coast of the Bahamas.
