Morocco has registered a significant improvement in the tourism sector after months of decline caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).
Morocco World News quoted DEPF as saying that the steady reopening of national borders, which commenced mid-June is benefiting the tourism sector.
At least 341,000 tourists entered Morocco in June compared to 6,600 in June 2020.
The North African country’s tourism revenues rose 90.1% from June to July after a 77% decline during the same period in 2020.
DEPF said the total number of overnight stays amounted to nearly 1.4 million in the second quarter of 2021 compared to 189,000, a year earlier.
Morocco suspended all flights and closed borders in March 2020 in a bid to control the spreading of COVID-19.
