The press service of the Russian Geographical Society has announced a competitive selection for participation in archaeological expeditions that will take place in the spring and summer of this year. Anyone interested in antiquity will be able to join.

"The project participants will gain practical research skills under the guidance of renowned archaeologists, as well as experience in group interaction in solving practical problems. In addition to direct work at the facilities, volunteers will enjoy fascinating lectures on history and archaeology, film screenings, master classes and weekend excursions," the message says.

In particular, the volunteers will have the opportunity to explore different areas of South Ossetia, where objects of the Early Stone Age were found. Another expedition will take place in Kyrgyzstan at an altitude of 1,609 meters above sea level. Its participants will see the high-altitude lake Issyk-Kul and explore groups of underwater monuments on its northern shore.

Another expedition will take place in Serpukhov, near Moscow. The volunteers will explore the settlement of Spas-Teshilovskoye, which is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance.  In the Kostroma region, another settlement dating back to the Early Iron Age is being examined. The object is located on a high promontory of the right indigenous bank of the Vetluga River.

In the village of Staraya Ladoga in the Leningrad region, volunteers explore one of the oldest Russian settlements. And the participants of the Artesian archaeological expedition will develop tourist routes in the vicinity of the Artesian settlement. They will also be able to take training courses in archaeological drawing and participate in the creation of a mobile archaeological exhibition.

The Orel region will host the Oka archaeological expedition. Its participants will continue to explore residential buildings of the first half of the first millennium AD. And during the archaeological and geographical expedition "Acre" in the Crimea, volunteers will be able to take part in the excavations of one of the most poorly studied monuments of the Bosporan Kingdom - the Greek city of Acre on the shore of the Kerch Strait. Archaeological surveys will also take place here on the territory of the necropolis of the ancient city.
