Scientists of the Saylyugemsky National Park (Republic of Altai) conducted a count of the Altai mountain sheep (argali, argali) and came to the conclusion that the number of these animals has grown to 2,488 individuals.
“For comparison, in 2014, during the first monitoring, scientists counted only 525 mountain sheep. The number has quadrupled. The positive dynamics in the conservation of the Altai mountain sheep is the result of many years of conservation work,” the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources reported on its website.
The current number of argali is 30 percent higher than was revealed during the previous monitoring.
