The Rialto Bridge, the oldest pedestrian crossing over the Grand Canal in Venice, has been reopened after restoration.
The works worth five million euros, which were financed by the founder of the Diesel clothing brand Renzo Rosso, were started in 2015 and completed in 2019.
But the inauguration ceremony was postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The famous tenor Andrea Bocelli was invited to the opening of the bridge, built more than 400 years ago. The singer performed the Italian anthem and an aria from the opera "Turandot".
The Rialto Bridge, through which you can cross the Grand Canal at its narrowest point, is one of the most photographed tourist attractions in Venice.
The bridge with an arch with a height of 6.5 meters, which is held by 6,000 wooden piles driven into the bottom of the lagoon, is considered an architectural masterpiece thanks to two arcades of jewelry stores and pedestrian paths with railings.
