Cleaning of the Ob shoreline is being carried out as part of the Year of Ecology, declared in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YaNAO).

It is planned to clean up a section of the coastal strip from Cape Angalsky in Salekhard to Pugollor Island and at the same time free the water area of the river from abandoned fishing gear and debris, according to the website of the YaNAO government.

Cleanup works are being carried out in the region at the expense of federal subventions.

“A territory of about 31 square kilometers will be cleared of garbage. To understand the scale of the event, this is the territory of a little less than half of the city of Salekhard. Such cleaning will improve the sanitary condition of both the coastal strip of the Ob and the water area, thereby creating favorable conditions for the habitat of aquatic biological resources, including valuable and especially valuable species, ”the words of the head of the department for organizing and regulating fisheries of the district department are quoted on the website of the government of the YaNAO Dmitry Korobeinikov.

The cleaning period was not chosen by chance - it is in the autumn low water, when the water level in the river is the lowest, that the cleaning of the coastline and the Ob water area from debris is the most effective, they say in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

All collected garbage, as well as abandoned fishing gear that is pulled out of the river, is first stored by specialists on the shore and then transported to a disposal site at a special landfill.

In two weeks of work, about 15 kilometers have already been cleared, more than four tons of garbage have been collected.

It is planned to complete the cleaning of the territory by mid-October this year.
