The new terminal of the Baikal airport in Ulan-Ude to be built by September 2024

The agreement on the construction of a new domestic air terminal at the Baikal airport in the priority development area (ASEZ) Buryatia was concluded during the VIII Eastern Economic Forum. The document was signed by Deputy General Director of the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (KRDV) Sergey Skaliy and General Director of Airport Baikal LLC (part of Novaport Holding LLC) Dmitry Garmaev.

“The area of the new domestic air terminal will be more than 6.6 thousand square meters. m, capacity - 600 passengers/hour, which is twice as high as the current airport capacity. Construction and installation work will be carried out in the conditions of the existing airport, they are expected to be completed in September 2024,” the KRDV reported on its website.

The head of Buryatia, Alexey Tsydenov, quoted by the KRDV, noted that the development of air traffic for the republic is extremely important from the point of view of tourism, strengthening economic ties and unlocking the potential of the region.

“Buryatia is the pearl of Russia. An original and incredibly beautiful region with a unique nature, where mountains and Baikal combine. You can see Russia in one place. We believe that Buryatia has amazing tourism potential,” said Roman Trotsenko, head of the board of directors of Novaport Holding, as quoted by the KRDV.

According to him, the terminal will be able to serve 2 million 200 thousand passengers a year.

“We believe that in the near future we will see an increase in the tourist flow to Buryatia at a level of approximately 10% per year,” Trotsenko noted.
