In 2022, Russian tourists made about 7 million trips abroad, while already in the first quarter of 2023, Russians traveled abroad for tourism purposes about 2 million times. This is almost 47% more than in the same period last year, said the head of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov.
“Russians are now traveling to familiar countries with a developed tourist infrastructure. In January-March 2023, the number of trips to Turkey increased by almost 71%, to the UAE - by 88%, to Thailand - by 12 times, due to the resumption of direct flights," the minister said.
Reshetnikov cited these data during a round table on cooperation between Russia and Myanmar in the tourism sector.
Participants discussed the boundary between nature and ecotourism, whether mass visits to unique areas can remain safe, the responsibilities of investors, and how to prepare tourists for visiting specially protected natural areas.
The head of state expressed confidence that the Forum will be held at a high level, and that its results will contribute to the development of tourism in Russia and the expansion of humanitarian and business ties.
