The international conference “Sustainable Tourism: Global Challenges and Russian Perspective” will begin work on October 6 at the mountain resort "Rosa Khutor".

On the agenda is an overview of the key challenges, prospects, trends and risks that stand in the way of sustainable tourism development in specially protected natural areas (PAs) on our planet.

As part of the event, a joint session of the UN Environment Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations will be held, at which members of the UN country team in Russia, together with colleagues from the UNEP and FAO headquarters, will voice the key points of the sixth UNEP report from the Global Environment Outlook series, and will also talk about the progress of the UN Decade for Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) program.

The conference participants will discuss issues of the financial sector, which declares interest in investing in projects for the sustainable development of nature tourism and tourism in protected areas, including using the principles of ESG investment. The industry is looking forward to the reform of the legislation on protected areas, which should create transparent rules for the implementation of investment projects related to the development of tourism in protected areas.

Experts will also talk about the implementation of "green standards" for the design and construction of infrastructure focused on environmental protection, human well-being and economic efficiency. For the first time, the term appeared on the Russian development market in the wake of the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi. The Rosa Khutor resort has taken an initiative to form green standards for the design and construction of infrastructure in the sector of natural recreation and tourism in protected areas, using its own corporate standard - "Green Code" as a template.

Another topic of the conference will be the topic of security - last year the certification of instructors-guides appeared, measures of administrative responsibility were introduced.

The conference will be attended by leading experts from Russia and foreign countries, who will share their experience in the field of sustainable development of natural recreation, active tourism and tourism in protected areas.

The conference will be held at the mountain resort "Rosa Khutor" for the fourth time.
