On Wednesday, the head of the Persian Leopard Breeding Center in Sochi died. He was an active protector of these animals, responsible for their reintroduction into the wild. Thanks to him, it was proved that the Persian leopards can give birth in captivity and then survive in the wild.
The Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia Alexander Kozlov also expressed his condolences.
“It was the life work of Umar Aubekirovich,” the minister said on his telegram channel. “Everything in the Center is connected with him, with his love for animals, understanding of the nature of the leopard, and ability to work for results. We will always remember Umar Semenov like this : wise, open, enthusiastic - alive. And we will continue his work - the Persian leopard will live in the Caucasus."
At the time of his death, Umar Semenov was 50 years old.
