“The newly created Council operates within the framework of the Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development, formed in 2021 to promote the ESG agenda, promote its transformation taking into account new challenges, create platforms for interaction and cooperation with those state and non-state structures and organizations that have become involved in the sustainable development, and set the task of active actions,” said Alexander Shokhin, President of the RUIE, Chairman of the RUIE Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development.
He emphasized that RUIE has a set of tools that allow assessing the activities of companies taking into account sustainable development factors, presenting its results to stakeholders, identifying and supporting successful corporate practices and leading companies, and helping companies improve the quality of disclosed information.
Assistance in the development and improvement of national systems and assessment tools in the field of ESG, increasing their importance in the eyes of professional communities, regulators, and financial structures was identified as an important area of the Council's work.
In addition, Andrey Bugrov, Chairman of the Council, Member of the Board of the RUIE, Vice President of Norilsk Nickel, delivered a report on the activities of the RUIE Council for Non-Financial Reporting in conducting public assurance of non-financial reports in the previous period.
“Public certification of non-financial reports is a tool for independent confirmation of information disclosed by companies on the implementation of the principles of responsible business conduct in corporate strategies and activities of companies. This form of certification has its own subject, independent significance and is in demand regardless of the presence or absence of a professional audit opinion on the report. All previous experience confirmed this to us,” summed up Andrey Bugrov.
