The first major fire this fall was extinguished near the borders of the Land of the Leopard National Park in the south of Primorsky Krai, the park's press service reports.
The staff of the protected areas fought the fire all day long.
“The fire got as close as possible to the border of the protected area, the work had to be carried out in a strong wind at a speed of 14 meters per second, which constantly changed direction. However, we defended the national park, one might say, heroically. The mineralized strips we prepared in advance played a huge role. Despite the long duration of the fire, the dug-up land plots became a barrier, helped to stop and extinguish the flames,» said Evgeny Stoma, Deputy Director of the Land of the Leopard Federal State Budgetary Institution for Territory Protection.
The preliminary assessment showed that the fire affected several thousand hectares in the adjacent territory.
