The doctors of the city hospital received an unusual patient - a 100-kilogram Caretta sea turtle, listed in the Red Book. This species does not live in the Black Sea, so most likely the turtle was brought from the Mediterranean by a storm current. The meter-long reptile covered with a layer of green algae was first thought to be a boulder. But then, the city workers of Anapa, who are preparing the beaches for the summer season, saw a turtle in the "green stone".
The employees of the reserve in Utrish left for the place of the unusual find. They determined that the tortoise - seriously ill - was breathing rapidly and loudly with no visible signs of injury. Scientists from the Utrishky Reserve gave the reptile an injection of vitamins, from which it "woke up" and even began to move her flippers. As a result, the animal with signs of exhaustion and hypothermia was taken to the Nikolsky Turtle Rehabilitation Center in the village of Supsekh.
"The specialists treated the turtle with great attention. In the beginning, the doctors tried to take an x-ray, but the shell turned out to be very dense, so it was not possible to get accurate results. Then the doctors decided to turn to a more modern method and made the patient a computed tomography," Anapa authorities reported.
The CT scan results have already been sent to the Moskvarium Center for Oceanography and Marine Biology. Soon the experts should provide their opinion on the health of the reptile.
