La Toubana Hotel in Saint-Anne on the south coast of the Grand Terre in Guadeloupe has been upgraded into the first 5-star hotel in this overseas department of France.

The reconstruction of the hotel was carried out in order to meet the growing demand for holidays in Guadeloupe from wealthy clients, primarily from the United States.

The works were partially financed from the European Regional Development Fund.

Meanwhile, the Guadeloupe Hospitality Industry Workers' Union called the situation in the tourism industry critical. The trade union fears that in the coming year, the Guadeloupe tourism sector expects a "disaster scenario" similar to the situation in 2021.

In 2019, 800,000 foreign tourists visited Guadeloupe, reports touteleurope.eu.
