The participants of the congress outlined the most pressing issues of the development of the reserve system, summed up the results of the activities of protected areas in the current year and outlined future plans.
During the event, Alexander Kozlov, head of the Ministry of Natural Resources, emphasized that the main task of the reserve system is to preserve Russia's biodiversity. According to him, thanks to the daily work of teams of professionals, the country has already managed to save the Amur tiger, bison, and the Far Eastern leopard from extinction. In addition, there is a chance for the Central Asian leopard, Przewalski's horse and many other animal species to return to the wild.
The press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources reported that in continuation of the work of the All-Russian Congress of Directors of Protected Areas, working sessions are planned on biodiversity conservation, organization of security work, scientific research, development of ecological tourism, prevention and control of fires, prospective development of environmental education and development of a media strategy protected areas and a number of other topics.
Currently, the system of specially protected natural areas in Russia includes about 13,000 protected areas with a total area of about 240 million hectares. In total, there are 107 reserves, 66 national parks, 63 reserves in the country.
