The gastronomic festival of northern desserts, "SWEET WINTER," has started in the cafes and restaurants of Arkhangelsk. Until January 8th of the new year, they will offer visitors delicious new dishes inspired by the history and traditions of the Russian North. This was reported by the Tourism Portal of the Arkhangelsk Region.
"The festival is aimed at promoting regional cuisine and supporting local entrepreneurs. Each participant will offer a modern author's interpretation of traditional recipes or desserts made with local products," the message says.
In anticipation of the New Year holidays, residents of Arkhangelsk and city guests will also be able to take part in gastronomic workshops. There, they will learn, for example, how to brew Mezen coffee, bake kalitki (traditional Russian pies), make strawberries in chocolate, or prepare a delicate and exquisite tart.
The festival menu is full of unusual flavor combinations and dishes with interesting presentations. For instance, you can find a cake in the shape of a New Year's tree ball, combining the texture of classic "Bird's Milk" with a delicate biscuit and cloudberry. Or, for example, a dessert inspired by northern traditions - an Arkhangelsk kozulya (a traditional Russian gingerbread cookie) with sour cream, blueberry ice cream, and fir oil. There is also an unusual interpretation of medovik (honey cake) on the menu - in its recipe, in particular, pine cone jam and macerated lingonberries with star anise are used. There are also many different desserts based on northern berries.
The full menu with descriptions of dishes, prices, and contact information of the establishments can be found on the festival page.
"Sweet Winter" is organized by the Center for Tourism Development and Culture of the Arkhangelsk Region with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the region.
