Enjoy the enchanting beauty of the Amalfi coast in southern Italy - a cherished dream of travelers from all over the world.
The white and colored houses on the mountainside above the crystal-blue sea always attracted wealthy tourists from the United States. They made up half of all foreign tourists arriving in Amalfi.
However, due to the high incidence of COVID-19 coronavirus, Americans are still prohibited from entering Europe, which has opened its borders to foreign tourists.
According to the Coldiretti trade union, the loss of the summer season without American tourists can amount to 1.8 billion euros. This would be a heavy blow to the Italian economy, as tourism accounts for 13% of its GDP.
However, in Amalfi, it is encouraging to note that Americans, Canadians and Australians, in anticipation of the lifting of quarantine restrictions, have already begun to book hotel rooms for September-October.
So far, the vast majority of their clients are Italians themselves, whose share usually does not exceed 5-7%.
