In order to promote domestic tourism in the summer of 2023, the Russian Railways holding is resuming multimodal transportation using rail and water transport. The company announced this on its website.
“Passengers will be able to issue train and high-speed boat tickets to their destination with one order. Water transport routes pass through the ancient Russian cities of the Silver Necklace, which combines natural objects, sights and monuments of the North-Western Federal District, as well as the Nizhny Novgorod Region, where you can get acquainted with the amazing and unique world of folk crafts.
For example, having arrived in the Karelian Sortavala by rail, you can transfer to the Meteor high-speed ship and go to the island of Valaam. The route will be valid until August 31 inclusive. At the same time, the schedule of Meteors is conveniently docked with the schedule of passenger trains - this significantly saves time for transfers, Russian Railways noted.
Upon arrival of the train in St. Petersburg, tourists can go on the Meteor to the Peterhof State Museum-Reserve (from the pier Descent with Lions), on a sightseeing tour of the Oreshek fortress or to Kronstadt (from the pier of the Kunstkamera). The route will operate daily until October 1, 2023 inclusive.
From Petrozavodsk until July 31, by boat you can proceed to the island of Kizhi to the historical and architectural museum of the same name, based on the ensemble of the Kizhi churchyard. Here, in addition to the buildings existing in their original places, a large number of chapels, houses and outbuildings from Zaonezhye and other regions were brought here.
From Veliky Novgorod from May 26 to August 27 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from the Yaroslav's Dvorishche Pier along the Volkhov River, the ship will deliver travelers to the village of Vzvad, which in the 12th-13th centuries was a place of princely hunting and fishing, and today is known for the Vzvadsky fish factory " Red fisherman".
From Nizhny Novgorod, the high-speed hydrofoil vessel "Valdai 45 R" on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from June 2 to September 30 will deliver tourists to Gorodets, Pavlovo, Yurino and back.
“Tickets for the listed routes are gradually appearing on sale. It is possible to issue travel documents both for a combined route and only for a water vessel using the Russian Railways Passengers mobile application and at railway ticket offices,” the company said.
Participants discussed the boundary between nature and ecotourism, whether mass visits to unique areas can remain safe, the responsibilities of investors, and how to prepare tourists for visiting specially protected natural areas.
The head of state expressed confidence that the Forum will be held at a high level, and that its results will contribute to the development of tourism in Russia and the expansion of humanitarian and business ties.
