The famous actor Steven Seagal joined the Russian Geographical Society. In late October, he visited the Moscow office where he was solemnly presented with a membership card, as per the report from the organisation.

The actor also agreed to become an ambassador for the Society's «Golden Ring of the Bosporan Kingdom» tourism project.

“I’m not going to judge what part my origin plays here, but I have always loved Russia. I have always been very interested in Russian traditions, culture, and history. And most importantly, I love Russian people, and not only because of my origin. To become a member of the Russian Geographical Society is an honor for me,» Seagal was quoted as saying.

Steven Seagal’s grandfather comes from Vladivostok. Seagal is known to have lived in Japan for about 20 years.

The project "Golden Ring of the Bosporan Kingdom" for the first time promotes Russia in the international arena as one of the unique centres of ancient culture and civilisation. The project aims at attracting foreign tourists.

The status of the ambassador fully agrees with the educational interests of Seagal and his careful attitude to the country’s heritage, says the Russian Geographical Society.

The Golden Ring of the Bosporan Kingdom is a large-scale tourism project created on the initiative of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society and the Ministry of Resorts, Tourism and Olympic Heritage of the Krasnodar Territory.  It covers four southern regions of Russia: the Krasnodar Territory, Rostov Region, Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The project includes more than 35 objects of cultural and historical heritage in several cities of southern Russia, including Gelendzhik, Anapa, Kerch, Novorossiysk, Azov, Taman, Sochi, Feodosia, Sevastopol, Evpatoria, Simferopol. The project also includes the organization of expeditions and tours, conferences, photography exhibitions and festivals. The Russian Geographical Society with the support of the Federal Agency for Tourism ensures overall coordination.
