St. Petersburg's Palace Square will become a dazzling attraction on December 7th and 8th. Residents and visitors of the city will be treated to a grand 3D mapping show, timed to coincide with the Hermitage's 260th anniversary, according to the Visit-Petersburg.ru portal.
"This year also marks another significant date - the 225th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin's birth. A multimedia performance dedicated to the poet will feature colorful images complemented by fragments from the operas 'Ruslan and Lyudmila' by Glinka, 'Sadko' by Rimsky-Korsakov, and 'Eugene Onegin' and 'The Queen of Spades' by Tchaikovsky," the statement reads.
In the second part of this light show, the audience will be presented with projects from the finalists of the "Country of LIGHT" competition. Residents and guests of St. Petersburg will be able to vote online for their favorite team.
Video mapping is a branch of audiovisual art that involves 3D projection onto an object in space, such as the facade of a building.
