Africa's Travel Indaba, South Africa's biggest travel trade show, is set to return next year after it was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
South Africa re-opened its land entry points and airports to international travellers subject to COVId-19 negative tests.
The country had also been vaccinating its citizens against the deadly virus.
The Indaba will be hosted from2 to 5 May in Durban.
“The need for physical events and face-to-face encounters is evident in both the industry and the public,” South African Tourism acting chief executive Sthembiso Dlamini was quoted as saying by IOL.
“The experiences over the last months have shown that on-location events can take place safely and successfully, and demonstrate how important they are for dialogue and exchange.
She said they recently hosted Africa’s Travel and Tourism Summit using a hybrid format.
Hosting Meetings Africa and Africa’s Travel Indaba will certainly show our exhibitors, buyers, and the world that South Africa is open for business and that the South African tourism sector has world-class Covid-19 safety protocols in place to deliver on memorable experiences and events,” said Dhlamini.
