The solar cruise of the state water transport department and the first one to be operated in Ernakulam will be commissioned in one month. Currently, the vessel is under construction at a yard in Panavally and is built at a cost of INR 3 crore.

The imported battery and motor of the vessel were commissioned a week ago. The fibre vessel will be used to transport tourists to the sea from Marine Drive for INR 100 per hour for a passenger. Seats need to be fitted and interior works before the commissioning of the 100- seater vessel are pending.

The cruise will be an air-conditioned one and will have a facility for electric charging as well. Sources said that the service of the cruise vessel will begin before the Water Metro starts its operation. Meanwhile, the fifth of the seven catamarans allotted for Ernakulam is likely to join the fleet this month.
