Sochi is set to expand its conservation efforts with the creation of four new specially protected natural areas. This initiative builds on significant greening efforts already underway in the city.

In 2024, approximately 5,000 plants were planted as part of compensatory landscaping, including conifers, decorative evergreens, deciduous trees, and various palm species. Looking ahead to 2025, over 640 trees and 20,700 shrubs are planned for planting on municipal lands in Sochi.

"This year, the city budget has allocated 200 million rubles for planting new vegetation, with a priority on shrubs. We must preserve the city's existing green zones and establish new ones," stated Pyotr Severov, Deputy Head of Sochi.

Furthermore, the Krasnodar Krai, where Sochi is located, has developed a new plan for the development and placement of specially protected natural areas. By the end of 2025, the region intends to create an additional seven protected natural areas of regional significance, covering 11,000 hectares. By the end of 2027, a total of 34 sites, spanning over 24,200 hectares, will receive the status of specially protected natural areas of regional significance.
