The total tourist flow to the Sochi Resort from 1 to 10 May amounted to 232,000 people. Compared to the “before COVID” 2019 this figure has grown by 55 percent. The peak in tourist flow was recorded on May 6. On this day, 122 thousand guests were in the city, including tourists.

“The weekend in Sochi passed without incident. The epidemiological situation in the city remains calm, 34 people are hospitalized on a daily basis with suspected coronavirus. All in all, 490 beds are deployed in Sochi for patients with covid,” said Aleksey Kopaigorodsky, mayor of the city, on his Telegram channel.

The average location occupancy during the May holidays in the Olympic capital amounted to 82.4 percent. Now Sochi has 975 accommodation facilities with a total capacity of 137 thousand beds. The highest percentage of occupancy was noted in sanatoriums and large hotel complexes of medium and high level of stars with heated pools, spa and well-developed infrastructure.

“Now there is an outflow of guests from the city. There is now a massive departure of people at airports and train stations. It is necessary to maintain social distance. Tourists arriving by their own transport should not encounter inconveniences on the roads. Guests of the city should leave the resort comfortably and safely, so that only pleasant impressions will remain about the rest,” highlighted Aleksey Kopaygorodsky.

Sochi's transport hubs were ready for peak loads in advance. At the Sochi railway stations, current repairs and improvement of platforms and buildings were carried out, additional seats were repaired and installed on platforms and in waiting rooms. The staff at the airport has been increased by more than 470 people specifically for the summer season.
