Sochi cherry blossoms started a month later for the first time in 20 years

This happened because of the cold winter, as announced in the Sochi National Park.

«Usually, sakura flowers began to bloom already in the first days of March, but frosts caused a shift in phenological phases to a later time. Flowers could open at the end of February if there was a warm winter in Sochi,» said Galina Soltani, a researcher at the Sochi National Park.

The peculiarity of the flowering cherry tree is that one species follows another. In Sochi, only the territory of the Arboretum park has 23 varieties of sakura with white, green, double flowers. Full cherry blossom in Sochi will take place in the second half of April, and will end in mid-May.
