The official website of the Mayor of Moscow has announced that soon the living conditions at the rehabilitation center and bird shelter in Sokolniki will improve, and tours for visitors will become more engaging. A new area for the ornitharium is currently being developed in the park.
Specialists have already completed the land surveying and prepared the foundations for the new pavilion. Simultaneously, engineering networks are being laid, foundations for the aviaries are being prepared, and a metal frame is being installed.
The ornithological rehabilitation center and shelter has been operating in Sokolniki for over 10 years. However, the old building is located too close to the children's sports area, which is why a larger site has been selected for the new facility.
The centerpiece of the new ornitharium will be a large flight enclosure with a diameter of 30 meters and a height of 23 meters. The ornitharium will be constructed using a metal frame, with the facade covered in panels and the dome made of metal mesh, allowing natural light in while preventing the birds from escaping during training. In this space, the birds will be able to take off, gain altitude, maneuver, hunt, and obtain food in conditions that closely resemble their natural environment.
Adjacent to the flight enclosure will be a pavilion with a veterinary clinic, administrative offices, and utility spaces, covering an area of 621 square meters. This will be a quickly erected and non-capital construction. Guests will have access to the roof to view the entire area of the ornitharium. Through nine observation windows, they will be able to watch various activities inside, such as showcase falconry hunts, training sessions, and bird shows.
The outdoor area of the ornitharium will feature 28 aviaries. Four of them, with a diameter of 5.8 meters, will be designated for large predators like eagles, golden eagles, and Eurasian eagle-owls. Twelve aviaries with a diameter of 5.2 meters will house medium-sized predators like hawks and harriers, while another twelve with a diameter of 3.5 meters will accommodate small predators.
Additionally, a two-story pigeon house, nine meters high, will be built on the premises, capable of housing about 30 birds. Nearby, a corvid aviary measuring 97 square meters will be constructed to accommodate 30 birds. Inside, perches, shelters, swings, slides, and logs will be designed, which are crucial for the intellectually developed feathered residents.
Participants discussed the boundary between nature and ecotourism, whether mass visits to unique areas can remain safe, the responsibilities of investors, and how to prepare tourists for visiting specially protected natural areas.
The head of state expressed confidence that the Forum will be held at a high level, and that its results will contribute to the development of tourism in Russia and the expansion of humanitarian and business ties.
