The press service of the Tula region government has announced plans to enhance Sobornaya Square near the Assumption Cathedral in the city of Alexin as part of the "Alexin Shchedrins" project. A new park, Shchedrin Square, will be developed at this location and will be incorporated into the pedestrian route known as the "Shchedrin Trail."

The route is named after composer Rodion Shchedrin and is designed to connect the cathedral with a new memorial museum to be established in the former home of the Shchedrin family on Radbuzhskaya Street, anticipated to open in 2025. The museum's exhibit will feature unique materials about the life and work of the composer.

The "Shchedrin Trail" will also feature a zone with small architectural forms symbolizing the Shchedrin family's contribution to the culture and musical life of Alexin, along with a festival area equipped with a stage. In the future, this area is expected to become one of the main venues for the Shchedrin Festival, which will be held with the support of the Valery Gergiev Foundation.

Rodion Shchedrin was a Soviet and Russian composer, People's Artist of the USSR, and laureate of the Lenin and State Prizes. Although he was born in Moscow, he frequently visited Alexin in his childhood to see his grandmother.
