Guests of the festival will be able to try their strengths in traditional competitions such as sack racing, carrying a yoke with water-filled buckets, and lifting heavy weights. The most anticipated event will be wrestling on "kushaks" (belts).
Celebrations dedicated to the Sabantuy festival will take place on July 20th at the Ferris Wheel on the embankment in Yaroslavl, as announced by the official portal of the Yaroslavl region.
"Celebration of Sabantuy has long become a good tradition for the region, symbolizing friendship and unity among the people living on our land," cites the portal Svetlana Balyasnikova, deputy minister of social communications and scientific and technological development of the region.
"Yaroslavl Sabantuy is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the culture and traditions of our country's peoples, hear Tatar songs and folk music, take part in various entertainment and attractions, and taste national dishes," adds the portal.
Artists from Tatarstan will perform for all festival-goers. Guests who prefer active leisure will have a chance to participate in traditional competitions, including sack racing, yoke carrying, breaking a pot with a stick while blindfolded, and lifting heavy weights.
"The most anticipated event of the festival will be the wrestling competition in the national style on 'kushaks' (belts) - 'kuresh'," notes the portal.
The festival is organized with the support of the regional authorities and the National Cultural Autonomy of the Tatars of the Yaroslavl region.
