South African hotel chain, Tsogo Sun Hotels, is expected to shut down its Southern Sun Mayfair Nairobi Hotel, in Kenya by end of this month due to increased competition.
The 171-room hotel failed to remain afloat as Kenya’s hospitality industry continued to witness entry of new players and expansion by established brands, according to Eturbo News.
Tsogo will exit the Kenyan market after a decade of services.
The opening of the new global hotel and hospitality chains saw the available rooms hit over 20,000 in Kenya.
Kenya, which remains the leading safari destination in East Africa, is soon expected to witness the opening of 27 new hotels.
The country has 68 globally-branded hotels and it is projected to have 4,232 new hotel rooms by 2023.
