Ryanair cuts flights in winter

Irish airline Ryanair has announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic coming winter, it is forced to reduce flights by up to 40% from the level of the same period in 2019.

The airline said that its bases in Cork and Shannon (Ireland) and Toulouse (France) will be closed from November to March. Ryanair will also significantly reduce the number of aircraft at bases in Belgium, Germany, Spain, Portugal and Austria.

The airline plans to carry 38 million passengers in fiscal year 2021.

"There will unfortunately be more layoffs in this small number of cabin crew bases where we haven’t reached an agreement on working hours and wage cuts, which is the only alternative,” said Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary.
